Alexi, The Voice of Reason
My computer science teacher once wrote to me, in response to an answer on a test, “this is by far the most complicated and slow method to solve the problem, but it works.” I got a kick out of that.
I like to think about stuff and come up with my own ways of solving problems. Sometimes they’re slower and less efficient than the standard methods–ok, most times–but I just like the process of invention & discovery. I’d like to think that some of these detours are teaching me things that will come in handy in the future, but I’ll settle for just having some fun.
So when Ben suggested that I abandon sanity and move into a van for a couple months, I took pause. I mean, yeah, it’s nuts, but this road trip embodies a lot of my kind of thinking. Sure I could live in a house, work in an office, and otherwise obey the laws of convention. I even gave it a shot for a while! But it just wasn’t as fun as I think life should be. Fun in the sense of exploration and fulfillment, not using Rubber Duckie to eat G.I. Joes in the bathtub… although I reserve the right to do that occasionally, too.
This may be the slowest and least efficient way to get to fulfillment, but hopefully it works.
